Important Notice About 911 Emergency Calls
Please read this notice carefully before using D Line. It contains important information about how emergency calls work — and how they may fail — when using a VoIP softphone.
What D Line Is
D Line is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) softphone. Your calls travel over your internet connection, not over a traditional telephone network or cellular carrier. This distinction has significant consequences for emergency calling.
How 911 May Fail with D Line
Unlike a traditional landline or cellular phone, D Line's 911 service can fail in ways that native phones cannot. Specifically, your emergency call may not connect — or may connect to the wrong dispatch center — in any of the following situations:
- Internet outage: If your broadband connection is down, D Line cannot place any call, including 911.
- Power outage: If power is lost to your router, modem, or device, D Line will not function. A traditional cellular phone continues to work on battery.
- App crash or update: If the D Line app has crashed, is updating, or has been force-closed by your device, calls cannot be placed.
- No registered address or wrong address: 911 dispatch is routed based on the physical service address you register in your account. If you have not registered an address, or if your registered address is out of date (e.g., you moved), your call may be routed to the wrong emergency communications center or may fail entirely.
- Location unavailable: In some configurations, D Line cannot automatically determine your physical location. Dispatch will rely solely on your registered address.
- VoIP network congestion: High internet traffic or degraded network conditions can cause call setup to fail or audio to drop.
FCC-Required Subscriber Acknowledgement
By using D Line, you acknowledge and agree to all of the following:
- D Line is an interconnected VoIP service. It may not be reliable for emergency 911 calls. Service may be interrupted by power outages, internet failures, or other disruptions.
- You must register your physical service address in your Account settings before using the Service, and you must update it whenever you move or change your primary location of use.
- Even with a registered address, 911 dispatch may be delayed or routed incorrectly.
- You should maintain an alternative means of reaching emergency services — such as a native cellular phone or landline — at all times and at every location where you use D Line.
- You must inform all users within your organization of these 911 limitations before they use the Service.
- Davinci Tech Solutions is not liable for any failure of emergency 911 service resulting from internet outages, power failures, incorrect registered addresses, app crashes, or any other condition. You expressly waive any claims against Davinci Tech Solutions arising from an emergency call delivery failure.
What You Should Do
1. Register your physical address now
Log in to D Line → Settings → Account → Service Address. Enter the street address where you most commonly use the Service. This is the address sent to 911 dispatch when you call.
2. Update your address when you move
If you change offices, relocate, or frequently work from different locations, update your registered address before placing calls from the new location.
3. Keep a backup phone charged and accessible
Always have a native cellular phone or landline available. In a life-threatening emergency, dial 911 from that device first.
4. Tell everyone on your team
If you are an administrator deploying D Line for your organization, you must inform every user of these limitations. Consider displaying this notice during onboarding.
5. Know your local emergency numbers
In some locations, 911 is not the primary emergency number. Know the correct number for your jurisdiction.
In an Emergency
If you are in immediate danger:
- Use a cellular phone or landline to dial 911 (or your local emergency number).
- If you must use D Line, be prepared to verbally state your exact location to the dispatcher — do not assume they can determine it automatically.
- Stay on the line and follow dispatcher instructions.
